Scottish Renewables welcomes world’s first renewable heat incentive scheme The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has today (Monday 1st February) announced plans to introduce the world’s first incentive scheme for renewable heat.
Scottish Renewables, voice of the green energy industry in Scotland, welcomed the plans which would see renewable heat generation at all scales incentivised through the new Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
From April 2011 there will be guaranteed payments for those who install technologies such as ground source heat pumps, biomass boilers and air source heat pumps.
Daniel Borisewitz, Policy Manager Bioenergy and Heat Scottish Renewables, said the plans will benefit the renewables industry and local economies as well as individual householders. “The Renewable Heat Incentive will stimulate demand for renewable heat systems, reducing CO2 emission, providing energy security and helping Scotland meet its 11% target for renewable heat. The rapid growth required to meet this target will create around 2000 jobs and generate an estimate turnover of approximately £2.7 billion by 2020.”
