Specifying Sustainable Timber Use Seminar (1)

25 June 2013

There is a significant potential timber resource in Scotland suitable for use in a variety of applications. This includes not only wood and construction products and residues from commercial forestry but also the wood by-products generated from a range of timber processing operations. Furthermore and given the Scottish Government's commitment to renewable energy targets, wood represents a significant potential renewable fuel resource for the provision of low carbon heat.

Wood production in Scotland is sustainable, however the amount of timber available at any specific time is finite. It is, therefore, important to consider what the priority applications for our valuable timber resource are, and to explore which types of primary and secondary timber are best suited for use in the manufacture of wood-based materials, and which are appropriate for use as a low carbon woodfuel.
