What we do
This website forms part of the Regional Biomass Advice Network
(RBAN) , a network of support offered throughout Scotland which
delivers a co-ordinated woodfuel development programme.
Usewoodfuel Scotland aims to deliver a vibrant, sustainable
and viable biomass industry in Scotland. In particular, the
RBAN is focussed on the opportunities biomass for energy provides
for new business development, particularly in traditional primary
rural industries, such as forestry and agriculture. New markets for
biomass material can promote the diversification of rural
businesses, and the programme will support the creation of links
between the supply chain and new local markets. The programme
will help develop and consolidate customer confidence in the
biomass for energy supply chain.
Together, working with stakeholders at a national and regional
level, we have developed a comprehensive programme of support.
The main activities of the programme are:
- to put in place a network of 5 regional Usewoodfuel Officers.
For details of your local Usewoodfuel Officer see
contact us;
- to consolidate activities across partner organisations to
provide advice, support and assistance to businesses;
- to strengthen rural businesses, through the introduction of new
production processes and new products for biomass;
- to develop new markets for the product, particularly biomass
for heat, and to diversify supply chain businesses to promote links
between primary industries and markets;
- develop a mature biomass energy industry through a co-ordinated
support network providing advice and assistance to primary
producers, supply chain businesses and energy end-users;
- ensuring the uptake of opportunities presented by the
implementation of a Renewable Heat Strategy for Scotland and
development of the Renewable Heat Incentive;
- support the target groups through marketing initiatives;
- support the uptake by rural businesses of e-commerce
facilities.
