Forestry Commission Scotland have released the latest
report on woodfuel demand and useage in Scotland. It looks at
existing woodfuel use in Scotland and examines potential future
demand in the non-domestic and domestic sectors. It can be

Key findings in the report are as follows:
- At the end of 2013 there were an estimated 1,784 boilers using
woodfuel in Scotland
- By the end of 2014 this had grown to 3,906.
- Total woodfuel used in Scotland in 2013 was 775K oven dry
tonnes (odt) and by the end of 2014 the total had risen to 1,098
odt.
- The majority of woodfuel used in Scotland continues to be
virgin fibre, sawmill co-products and process residues. Recycled
wood remains an improtant source of fuel for the largest boilers
and accounted for 42% of all woodfuel used in Scotland in 2014.
Pellets accounted for 4% in 2014.
- Wood fuelled boilers in Scotland contributed 2,036k MWh in 2013
and 2,744 MWh in 2014 to the Scottish Governments renewable heat
targets.
- Wood fuelled boilers in Scotland are estimated to have saved
1,272k tonnes CO2e in 2014.
