This one-day course discusses the reasons for thinning and how
to measure the standing volumes of trees to determine how to
thin, when to thin, and how many trees to remove. Different types
of silvicultural systems will be discussed, as well as the
thinning regimes applied to these systems.
The practical pruning workshop will discuss best pruning
practice and focus on what, when and how to prune. The course
is part classroom-based and part woodland-based and includes
practical exercises in which delegates will select trees for
thinning and pruning. All equipment is provided.
The course starts from 8.30am at Westruther Village Hall, TD3
